No petals remained on the grass.
Grace still thought of the wedding whenever she passed the place where Katherine and Caleb had danced.
Caleb had moved into a small apartment closer to work.
He had started counseling and, slowly, stopped talking about winning Katherine back.
Grace considered that the first sign that he was beginning to understand the size of what he had done.
Beatrice was rebuilding too, this time without hiding behind anyone else’s anger.
Katherine did not return to Caleb.
She returned once to Grace’s house several months later for Sunday lunch.

For several minutes, neither of them mentioned the wedding.

“You still buy that?”
Grace smiled back.
“I still know what you like.”
Katherine sat at the kitchen table where she had once washed dishes on her first visit.
