Chapter 5 — My Aunt Bought My Wedding Date—Then the Owner Asked One Name

4.9Editorial score

Same price.

I read every line anyway.

Then I signed the acknowledgment that the booking had been corrected.

My hand didn’t shake.

Savannah noticed.

“Keep both copies,” she said.

“And you’ll receive a digital confirmation today as well.

No changes can be made without your or Ethan’s written authorization.”

“Thank you.”

“You shouldn’t have needed me for this.”

That sentence stayed with me.

Because she was right.

It would have made a prettier story if Ethan’s family connection had magically rescued me.

But the real rescue was less romantic and more important.

Someone in authority had decided my agreement meant what it said.

Margaret apologized again for Rosewood’s mistake and told me the internal process that allowed the release would be reviewed.

She didn’t give me a dramatic free upgrade or pretend a gift could erase the morning.

She simply promised the mistake would not happen again.

That felt more respectful than being bought off.

Vivian left first.

She didn’t say goodbye.

The pink coat disappeared through the glass doors, followed several seconds later by Chloe, who paused long enough to squeeze my arm and promise she would call me herself.

When the doors closed, the fountain suddenly sounded normal again.

I stood there staring at my confirmation until Savannah smiled.

“Ethan wasn’t exaggerating.”

I looked up.

“About what?”

“He said you get very quiet when you’re angry.”

I laughed before I could stop myself.

It was the first time I’d laughed all morning.

“He said that?”

“He also said that’s when people should worry.”

That sounded exactly like Ethan.

I called him from the parking lot.

He answered on the second ring, his voice carrying the noise of an ambulance bay behind him.

“Hey.

Everything okay?”

I looked back at Rosewood Hall.

“You could say that.”

I told him everything.

The released booking.

Vivian’s offer.

Margaret’s arrival.

Savannah walking through the doors with two folders.

When I reached that part, he went silent.

“Savannah was there?”

“Apparently your sister is terrifying with paperwork.”

He laughed.

“That sounds right.”

Then his voice changed.

“Vi, I’m sorry.

I didn’t know Vivian would do something like that.”

“Neither did I.”

“Do we still have the venue?”

I looked at the confirmation in my hand.

“We still have the venue.”
