“Who?”
She shook her head.
“Who is their father?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“It mattered when you put my name on every school form.
It mattered when you accepted my money.
It mattered when you let my family destroy Elena.”
Khloe’s composure cracked.
“You wanted them,” she said.
“All of you wanted them.
The first time I told you I was pregnant, you looked happier than you had in years.
Your mother sent a driver before I had even seen a specialist.
Nobody asked difficult questions because the answer gave you exactly what you wanted.”
Julian stepped closer.
“Did you know Liam might not be mine?”
Khloe looked toward the window.
That was answer enough.
Eleanor stood.
“And the second child?”
Khloe’s mouth trembled.
“You had already made me part of the family.”
“The third?” Julian asked.
She pressed both palms against her dress.
“By then, I could not go backward.”
Sarah’s expression did not change, but she opened her notebook.
Khloe saw it.
“I am not confessing to a crime.”
“No,” Sarah said.
“You are explaining the basis for three false claims attached to pending financial transfers.”
Khloe turned on Julian.
“You knew before the party.
You promised you would give me time.”
Eleanor’s head snapped toward her son.
“You spoke to her?”
Julian’s face hardened.
“She came to my office after I received the second result.
She said the boys would lose everything if I exposed it.
She said the scandal would damage the company and make me look ridiculous.”
“And you agreed,” I said.
“For one day.”
Again, he offered the duration as though brevity transformed betrayal into mercy.
Khloe laughed through her panic.
“Do not pretend you protected me.
You protected your name.
You would have kept those boys as heirs if Elena had not filed.”
Julian did not deny that either.
That was the moment Eleanor finally sat down.
Her empire had not been invaded from outside.
It had been hollowed out by the hunger she had encouraged in everyone around her.
She looked at me.
“What happens now?”
It was the first time she had asked me a question without already deciding my answer.
“The trust amendments are void,” Sarah said.
“The planned transfers remain frozen.
Khloe’s employment status and use of company funds will be reviewed.
Support for the children can be arranged separately without false representations about biological inheritance.”
