The attorney beside Arthur spoke for the first time.

She did not take funds from you.
She provided funds that prevented your insolvency.
Your recorded assault and threats will be addressed separately from the divorce.”
Nathan pointed at the screen.
“She made me dependent on her without telling me.”
Claire’s voice stayed quiet.

You were simply too proud to admit it.”

The Kingsley trust bought it when your lender foreclosed.”
Nathan slowly removed the access card from his pocket.
Vanessa moved toward the door.

Arthur addressed her.
“Investigators are waiting to speak with you regarding the staged fall and the assault that followed.
You are not being detained by us, but the police have requested that you remain available.”
Vanessa looked at Nathan.
“Do something.”
He laughed once, bitterly.
“You just told everyone the assault was my decision.”
“Because it was.”
“And the fall was yours.”
Patricia seized Vanessa’s arm.
“You poisoned my son against his wife.”
Vanessa pulled free.
“Your son did not need my help.
You stood there and watched.”
